Counter Strike 2: How To Setup CS2 Autoexec

Here's how you can setup Autoexec to have all the Console Commands executed as soon as you launch CS2.

The CS2 Autoexec feature is one of the best and players should set it up as soon as they can. Once you have customized and created your autoexec file, all the console commands you use in the file will get executed as soon as you start the game. As a Counter Strike veteran, the autoexec feature is something I would not miss out on since I like having features like FPS Counter in my game.

Sadly, some players cannot set it up while others are getting the ‘Unable to Read File’ issue. In this guide, we will help you setup Autoexec in your Counter Strike 2 game and how to fix the [InputService] exec: couldn’t exec ‘{*}cfg/autoexec.cfg’, unable to read file issue.

How to Setup Your CS2 Autoexec

How to Fix Unable to Read Autoexec File in Counter Strike 2

Here’s how players can setup their own CS2 Autoexec:

  • Starting from Steam, right click on Counter Strike: Global Offensive, and then select Manage Files.
  • Once you select the Browse Local Files option, it will take you to the location where the game files are saved.
  • Now, players need to select the ‘game’ folder and then open the csgo folder here. Do note that many players make the mistake of opening the csgo folder in the Browser Local Files location directly.
  • After you open the correct csgo folder, open the cfg folder there. This is the location where you have to save your CS2 Autoexec file. Make sure the directory looks like Counter-Strike Global Offensive>game>csgo>cfg.
  • Now, open Notepad and then type in the Counter Strike 2 console commands that you want to execute as soon as the game launches.
  • As soon as you are done, click on Save As and then save the file with this name – autoexec.cfg.
  • Now every time you run CS2, the autoexec file will load everything.
  • For some reason if it fails to do so, head to Console Commands and then type in exec autoexec.cfg and it should start working.

How to Fix Unable to Read Autoexec File in Counter Strike 2

Many players have encountered an issue with Autoexec not working when they type in the console commands in the game. [InputService] exec: couldn’t exec ‘{*}cfg/autoexec.cfg’, unable to read file issue pops up with CS2 Autoexec. If you have encountered this little error, you might have ended up saving the autoexec.cfg file directly in the csgo folder. Cut the file from that location and then head to game>csgo>cfg and then paste it here. And that should help you get rid of this error.
