While the end of Assasin’s Creed Valhalla felt slightly incomplete, this free content update promises to close the Nordic chapter. You will reunite with old allies and enemies from the past. Having said that, several players are confused about starting the main quest. This main quest is named “The Raven & the Cuckoo” and it involves meeting an ally from Assasin’s Creed Mirage. How to Start the Raven & the Cuckoo Quest in AC Valhalla

Before you start with the Raven and the Cuckoo quest, there are some prerequisites you need to complete in Assasin’s Creed Valhalla. The Raven and the Cuckoo quest is the first quest for starting the Last Chapter expansion.

So, here are the following prerequisites you need to complete to start with this quest in AC Valhalla:

• All Main Quests
• Asgard and Jotunheim Story arcs
• Built the Jomsviking Barracks at Ravensthorpe region
• Raise the Settlement to Level 5

Once you have completed these above requirements, you can start with the main quest. Here are the objectives for completing the Raven and the Cuckoo Quest in AC Valhalla:

• Speak to the Crew Member at the Docks

How to Complete the Quest

When you find a Saxon dressed in the Raven Viking Clan attire, you will interrogate him at the Docks. As you interrogate this Crew member, he will state that Ser Edward aka the Earl of Westerna is behind this. He will direct you to a meeting point on the shore of Wandrie in Granterbridescire. Upon heading there, you will be prompted to investigate the spot. You can use Odin’s sight to discover the spot until a cutscene triggers. During this cutscene, you will meet Roshan who will share you both share a common enemy.

If you have played AC Mirage, you would know that she is one of the main characters and Bashim’s mentor. As you follow and interact with her, she will task you with assassinating the Earl publicly. Furthermore, she will also state that killing the Earl publicly will draw out Al-Si’La. As you take on this objective, you can wear the Saxon outfit you took from the Imposter. Alternatively, you can choose to wear an outfit yourself. But it will be much easier to blend with your enemies by wearing the fake Raven Clan Viking outfit.

Similar to other assassinations, you need to be in complete stealth to complete this quest. Soon enough, you will hear the Earl gloating in front of his followers.

Upon hitting the Assassinate or interact button, a cutscene will be triggered. This would conclude the Raven and the Cuckoo quest in Assasin’s Creed Valhalla. Once you complete the quest, you will be rewarded with the Mentor of Alamut armor set.

Is AC Valhalla Coming on Steam?

While it is not confirmed, there is a possibility that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is coming to Steam. The last Assassin’s Creed game available on Valve’s platform was Odyssey. While Valhalla was released on Ubisoft and Epic Games, it was not made available on Steam.

The reason behind this was the Senior VP of Ubisoft Chris Early who described the business model of Valve as unrealistic. He also mentioned to the New York Times in an interview in 2019 that “it doesn’t reflect where the world is today in terms of game distribution”.

The possible news of AC Valhalla coming to Steam came from a Reset Era post by user AshenOne who shared images of the Ubisoft Connect site code.

However, since the expansion, the River Raids map showed activity. Or more precisely, we were introduced to new River Severn Gear and Weapons for AC Valhalla. All River Severn Gear Location in AC Valhalla

The River Severn gear will be available to players during the Treasure of River Severn quest. The gear that you are looking for is the St. George Armor Set. While there are a few locations where you can look for it, the gear does not have a dedicated location and it spawns randomly in some areas.

If you want to start with this mission, you will have to speak with Vagn and then start the River of Severn Map. There are a few locations that you can raid but best to use the Odin Sight for this one. Here are the locations where you can get the River Severn Gear in AC Valhalla:

• Next both of them will start arguing and Eivor will stop them.
• Here you can pick either option because no matter whom you pick is right Sigurd will interrupt and give the final judgment.
• And in his judgment, he will declare Holger a thief and punish him by making him pay Gudrun for 30 sailcloths.
• This is where the real choice comes in.
• Once Sigurd announces his decision Holger will request you to do something about the unfair decision. Here you get two choices:
  • This judgment is unfair.
  • I support Sigurd’s judgment.
• When you go along with Sigurd you end up with him on good terms. So if you want a better ending with him go along with Sigurd. Another reason is even if you do defy him the outcome will still be the same where Holger gets the punishment.

The Twilight of the Norse Gods is finally here and in this AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok DLC Review, we will take a look at how it fares. This is the story of the Isu surviving their annihilation in the Great Catastrophe of 75,000 BCE and it was already told in the base game. But one thing was missing from the base game – the story of Surtr.

Now Allfather Odin will relive his memories and you can witness it playing out in the mythological version of the story through the eyes of Eivor. So today we will tell you how it feels to see the beginning of the ending.

AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok DLC Review

Synopsis & Setting

I hoped to see a brand new story, it is exactly what we get. Dawn of Ragnarok tells a new story of Odin trying to save Baldr from the hands of the Isu warlord Surtur. He is the ruler of Muspelheim, a land he claimed for his subjects called Muspels. They blindly follow and commit atrocities in name of Surtur. Now Surtur has commanded the Muspels to invade Svartalfheim and kidnap Baldr. They intend to find the Salakar.

Salakar is a powerful artifact created by elves. Elves were much more advanced to Isu, on the same scale level Isu ae advanced to humans. Elves were hunted down to extinction by Surtr, who stole their immortal light to become deathless. So now no Elves around, none understands Salakar’s power but Surtr. Now he wishes to steal Baldr’s power and combine it with Salakar. But why does he need this? This is what Dawn of Ragnarok’s story is all about. If I go any deeper, I will spoil the entire plot for you. So that’s the basic plot. As the title gives away, the plot is the beginning of Ragnarok for the Norse Gods.

Map & Setting

So as we said above, Baldr is kidnapped & chained by Surtr in the dwarven realm Svartalfheim. So naturally, you as the player have to visit the said realm. The best part of the game is how good it is to look at the new map. The new area can only be accessed by visiting your local seer Valka.

You will be teleported to land that on the surface look almost similar to the other lands in England. But climb up a viewpoint, and you will see this map is the most different one in the entire game. The land is filled with huge dwarven statues, long bridges, floating mountains, solid gold mountains, and one part of the map covered by a gigantic burning tree root.

All these new additions to the map make it feel have something new when you have already invested hours of gameplay in the prior DLCs of the game. The world itself is a mixture of the base maps with fire and ice. Ragnarok is not limited to keeping the locations realistic as the base game. This is visible throughout the map, and it’s fun to explore new locations. Massive statues, castles, and monoliths are

Gameplay

Surtr is the main antagonist, followed by his wife, kids, and other muspels. Each of these characters has its own unique behaviors and flaws that make them stand out in its own rights. But apart from this, you will be doing the exact same thing in the base game. Explore, solve puzzle pieces, fight enemies, kill bosses, raid, explore, repeat. There are new enemies, and elites to fight, but after 3-4 hours of fighting them, they all start to show similarities to enemies in the base game.

The new addition in Dawn of Ragnarok is the Isu bracer Hugr-Rip. Created by Dwarves, this bracer helps your fight again the Muspels and Jötnar much easier. This Piece of Eden has tons of powers up its sleeves. The main one is Power Absorption from Muspel, Jötunn, and Raven. Hugr-Rip is also capable of giving you Shape-Shifting abilities, Short-Distance Teleportation, echolocation, calling upon draugr, and even bending the elemental forces to your wises.

Hugr-Rip can absorb lifeforce from any lifeform among the 9 realms it touches. So you can use the powers of your enemies again them. Once you drain the powers of the enemy, you can shapeshift in a raven to cover distances before not possible in the base game, shapeshift into enemies and get their powers to survive in soul-crushing heat, and walk among the enemy undetected.

Hugr-Rip can also call upon undead Draugrs to find along your side. You can also control elemental forces like electricity, frost, and fire with some really cool visual effects on your battlefield. And during shapeshifting, you can walk over lava and other frost landscapes, which otherwise destroys your health bar in a few seconds.

But as fun as all of these powers and new abilities sound, they are held back by their own limitations. For starters, you can only have two active powers at any given time. And there is no option to choose which power you like according to the combat you are going into.

The only way to change powers is by exploring Svartalfheim and finding the right enemy who carries that power, to absorb it from them. So if you are planning to experiment, then mix & match these powers, then your journey will quickly turn into an exploration game hunting for enemies carrying those powers.

That doesn’t mean there are unlimited types of enemies in the DLC. You will come across all the enemy types within your first 20 hours of gameplay. From there, it’s just mashing buttons like the 100+ hours you already invested in the base game.

AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok Review Verdict

Dawn of Ragnarok is huge in size, but it’s just another bunch of hours for you to dress up in magic, walk over lava, and kill enemies who are there to replace the old knights and English soldiers. The combat and exploration quickly feel exactly like a rehash of old enemies and environment into fire & ice monster, with floating mountains in the sky. The added new powers are cool, but considering their usage limitations, and the fact you have to hunt for them around the map every time, just makes the gameplay feel repetitive.

Boss fights now have lots of variations, when compared to the traditional bosses of the base game. But these variations are limited to mainly ranged attacks. And once you understand the pattern of attacks, these encounters stop becoming a challenge for you. Dawn of Ragnarok can be considered something close to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s The Fate of Atlantis DLC, grand in ideas, but much limited in scope. But if you enjoyed boss fights in that one, then you will be hooked into Ragnarok’s offerings pretty easily.

But if AC Valhalla is among your favorite game, then Dawn of Ragnarok will offer you a new map, new enemy types, new weapons, new skills, and abilities to go along with it. There are moments you will find yourself enjoying playing Dawn of Ragnarok more than the base Valhalla. So overall, we suggest you pick this up if you a fan of the base game and want to play more of Assassin’s Creed till the next game in the series comes out in the future.

How to Beat Surtr in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok?

Before you begin with the fight, upgrade all of your gear to its maximum potential. As you will be fighting a compressed giant version of Lava, you need to upgrade your Fire Build-up resistance and Fire Damage Resistance. Mentioned below are the steps to help you take down Surtr:

• Now as you begin with the combat, take some time to analyze his movements.
• Maintain a safe distance and avoid getting too close to him for the starters.
• Try dodging his sword attacks and use long-ranged attacks to deplete his health.
• If you get too close to him, he can stomp you with his foot marking a V-shaped symbol.
• You need to keep moving spontaneously while observing his attacks.
• When the opportunity comes, strike him with a weapon and then maintain a distance again.
• Remember to dodge and roll back his attacks as much as possible.
• Once you have depleted much of his health, he will use his left hand to smash on the ground which will create a fire circle.
• This attack can damage you greatly as it will hit you right at the point you were standing when he smashed his hand.
• While he surrounds you with lava, be cautious to not step or go closer to it. He can even throw the lava underneath the ground.

The recent expansion of Assassin’s Creed is finally here and has done a pretty great job at exploring Norse Mythology. The Dawn of Ragnarok features Eivor getting visions of Havi that is one of the names of Odin. It is an alternative name for Odin that translates to the High One. Thus, you are playing Odin as he fights the invaders and kidnappers of his son Baldr. But first, how do you get to Svartalfheim? As Eivor is having these visions, you will have to complete some of the quests before you reach his home. Not to worry, here’s our guide that explains how to get to Svartalfheim in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok.

How to Get to Svartalfheim in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok?

It is recommended that players need to be at least on level 340 before they begin with the DLC. Although if you have not reached that level, the expansion will create a character of level 340 with the suitable weapons and gear. You can check our guide on how to start with the DLC, to begin with. Mentioned below are all the objectives and how to complete them to get to Svartalfheim.

• You can traverse and enter Svartalfheim only when Eivor experiences these visions. You will need to build a hut for Valka at the Ravensthorpe.
• Once you have built a hut, you will receive a quest named Restless Dreams. As Eivor has been seeing these visions for a while now, the quest involves Eivor reflecting on these dreams.
• You need to rest at a tree and reflect upon the recurring dreams. If you wish to change the difficulty mode, you need to toggle it before you trigger the dreams.
• As the vision begins, Eivor wakes up as Havi and is having a conversation with Frigg. She informs you that their child Baldr has been abducted by the Muspels. Odin and Frigg traverse over mountains for any clues related to their son’s abduction. This will trigger the Svartalfheim’s DLC.
• The next quest is “The Rescue” as you and Frigg search for the clues. Follow her by clicking on the Focus option. As you follow her to different shelters looking for any traces, you will come across a bloodstain under the stairs.
• Go to the second floor to look at the letter on a table. As you investigate the letter, Frigg will be attacked by some of the Muspels downstairs. Help her out by defeating them.
• You will receive an objective to travel in a southeast direction. As you track and reach the location, you will encounter a giant door. When you open the door, you will see your son Baldr swinging by a rope in the middle of a room. You will encounter Surtur as you approach to save your son.
• As you defeat the Surtur, he will stay down for a while. Suddenly, he will use a dirty tactic on you by throwing lava in your eyes. As he grabs your head and throws you away, you watch Sinmara kill Frigg unconsciously.

• Upon waking up, head over to Valka’s hut to have a conversation. As you interact, Valka will give you some instructions to carry a ritual. Initiate the ritual by placing the mistletoe around four corners of the symbol. Complete the ritual by clicking on the middle of the symbol. As you carry on the ritual, Eivor will be consumed by the flames and return to the dream.
• When you return to the dream, you will meet the two dwarves that saved your life. Their names are Sigrun and Halstein. Your next mission is the Gift of the Gods as you follow these dwarves. As you proceed you will encounter some Muspels.
• Furthermore, Halstein will gift you a bracer which is a new mechanic in the expansion. It is called as Hugr-Rip. You can check out our article on how to use and upgrade the Hugr-Rip.
• As you proceed with your journey with the Dwarves, you will face Sinmara. Defeating her will be a cakewalk compared to defeating Surtur. Once you have defeated her, she will evade and disappear to the middle of the lava.
• Now, you have to follow the dwarves to the shelter’s first dwarven sign. And as you reach there, they will ask for your help to find the second one. Proceed further by using the Sight until you find it. As soon as you reach the shelter, The dwarves will leave and as a parting gift will reward you with Silica. Before they leave, you will meet their Chief Brudd. He will introduce you to a Blacksmith.
• Interact with the blacksmith to unlock the open-roam. Explore the Svartalfheim region as you unlock new weapons, gear, locations, and more. In addition to that, you can explore and get the best of both worlds.
• If you wish to go back to Ravensthorpe, you can head over to the map and click on the eye symbol to wake up. And, you can return to Svartalfheim by drinking a special potion at Valka’s hut.

Where to Find Hreidmar Armor in Assassins Creed Valhalla?

• Head over to the Hodda shelter at the Vangrinn region.
• It is towards the west direction of Vangrinn.
• You can find it in one of the rooms of Hodda shelters.
• You will be prompted with its curse as you collect the armor
• Once you equip this armor, it will damage you every 3 seconds and you will get 10 % additional damage.
• Your health will also reduce and with the nullified evasion there is much less scope to evade enemies.

How to Purify the Hreidmar Armor?

Hreidmar is the person who asked the gods for the compensation of his killed ones. Although he received it, it had a curse attached to it by Aesir that got him killed instead. Similarly, Hreidmar armor has a curse that debuffs players and depletes their health. So we need to lift its curse and purify it. Follow these steps:

• You need to equip a total of 5 Motsognir’s Clarity runes to lift the curse of Hreidmar armor.
• There are five armor pieces that you can equip on the armor to purify it.
• You can get the Motsognir’s clarity runes by finding and destroying the Jotun Blight around Svartlfheim.
• As you destroy a Jotun blight, you will receive artifacts, fragments, and the Motsongir’s clarity rune.
• Equip those five runes to lift the curse and purify it into a blessing. As you purify the armor, it will change into a Blessed armor set.

• It changes from an overall debuff generator to a quite helpful armor you can use during boss fights.
• Your health will heal for every critical hit and be restored by 20%.
• Although your healing rations will be reduced by 50%, you can damage your nearby enemies when you use the rations to heal.

AC Valhalla’s Dawn of Ragnarok is finally released. The player base is excited as it brings new content to the game in the form of game mechanics and stories. Speaking of Mechanics, the game introduces the item Hugr-Rip. The Hugr-Rip is an early game item that grants the players certain abilities. It is a core item and your gameplay will be centering around it. In this guide, I will show you how to use & upgrade the Hugr-Rip in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok.

How to Use & Upgrade the Hugr-Rip in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok

Like I have mentioned above, the Hugr-Rip in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok is an early game Item. It is given a gift from the Dwarves, Sigrun and Halstein, as you begin your Journey through Svartálfaheimr. You will meet them through the Fire Quest after meeting Valka. Once you get it, you will be able to 2 of the 5 abilities provided by the Hugr-Rip at a time. Here is how you can use & upgrade it in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok.

How to Use the Hugr-Rip?

Once you obtain it, you will be put into a cutscene where you will be taught how to use it. To use the Hugr-Rip in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok, you will need to have Hugr first. Hugr is the newest resource that fuels you Hugr-Rip. You can obtain it from three sources:

• By killing and looting enemies.
• Collecting it from Hugr Flowers.
• From Yggdrasil Shrines with a sacrifice of a portion of your Health.

Once you have enough Hugr you will be able to activate any 2 of the 5 abilities at a time depending on the active ones. This depends on what enemies you looted as you can only change abilities at that moment. Once you use the Hugr-Rip in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok, the ability will get activated, your Hugr Bar will be depleted, & the ability will run for a short amount of time. The Abilities you can have are:

• Power of Muspelheim – Grants the power of a Muspel. You will be able to be resistant to fire and walk on lava as well as get the ability to disguise as a Muspel.
• Power of Jotunheim – Grants the power of a Jotun. You will be able to dodge and roll with a teleport for a short distance as well as get the ability to disguise as a Jotun. You can also teleport around an area when you fire a bow at World Knots.
• Power of Rebirth – Grants the ability to reanimate Foes that will fight for you and will deal fire damage to other foes.
• Power of Winter – Grants the ability to inflict Ice damage with a chance to freeze Muspels. It will also deal 30% more damage to Muspel Giants. You will be able to shatter frozen enemies.
• Power of Raven – Grants the ability to fly higher elevations & areas that were otherwise inaccessible.

How to Upgrade it?

You can upgrade the Hugr-Rip by going to the Dwarven Blacksmith at the shelter in Svartálfaheimr. You will need fragments from Muspels, Jotuns, & Giant Ravens alongside Silica. Silica is the common resource here and you can get it by doing River Raids. The other fragments you will need are Giant Feathers, Magma Blood & Living Spark looted from any Muspel, and Jotun Seidr & Frozen Blood looted from any Jotun. Have a good amount of these resources and you will be able to upgrade the Hugr-Rip in AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok very easily.
